FAMILY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
This program is both a non-crisis and intensive family preservation program that preserves and strengthens family unity by serving families who are at-risk for having one or more children placed out-of-home due to abuse, neglect, truancy, substance abuse or severe parent/child conflict.

FOSTER CARE
Our Foster Care Program serves child-welfare youth 0-21 years old who have been removed from their homes. These youth have a history of neglect, abuse, truancy, and often behavioral and substance abuse issues. Our program utilizes nurturing, caring, and supportive foster parents to provide a safe, stable, and supportive environment for our foster youth.

Foster care is more than just a service; it’s a lifeline for children and families in need. Through the work of Three Rivers Youth, foster care has the power to transform lives—not only for the children who find safety, stability, and love but also for the caregivers who discover a deeper sense of purpose.

One story that resonates with me is that of a teenager who came into care during a tumultuous time in her life. Through the compassion and commitment of her foster family, she began to heal, thrive academically, and dream about her future. She eventually graduated high school and went on to college, crediting her foster parents for believing in her when she couldn’t believe in herself.

Foster care is about creating these opportunities for growth and healing. Every child deserves a chance to feel safe, valued, and supported, and every foster family plays a critical role in making that possible.

To anyone considering becoming a foster parent, I encourage you to take that step. It’s a journey that challenges you, teaches you, and leaves you forever changed. The reward is in the lives you touch and the futures you help build. With Three Rivers Youth, you’ll have the support you need to make a lasting difference.

My Journey with Mental Health: Finding Strength in Vulnerability

For years, I struggled silently with anxiety and depression. I didn’t understand what I was feeling or why it was happening. On the outside, I appeared fine—successful in my career, surrounded by family and friends—but inside, I felt overwhelmed, alone, and unable to cope.

It wasn’t until I hit a breaking point that I realized I needed help. The weight of carrying everything on my own became too much. With encouragement from a close friend, I sought therapy through Three Rivers Youth, an organization dedicated to supporting mental health and personal growth. I was hesitant at first, feeling ashamed and unsure of what to expect, but that decision changed my life.

Through therapy with the help of Three Rivers Youth, I began to understand myself better. I learned how my past experiences had shaped my thoughts and behaviors and started developing tools to manage my emotions. I also discovered the importance of self-compassion—something I had been withholding from myself for far too long.

Over time, I combined therapy with other practices that supported my healing, like journaling, exercise, and mindfulness. It wasn’t a quick fix, and there were setbacks, but each step forward reminded me that healing is a journey, not a destination.

Today, I’m in a much better place. I still face challenges, but I now have the tools and support to navigate them. My journey taught me the strength that comes from vulnerability and the importance of reaching out for help when needed. If you’re struggling, know that it’s okay to ask for help—and that brighter days are ahead. Organizations like Three Rivers Youth are here to walk alongside you on your path to healing.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SERVICES

DIVERSION
Our Diversion Program utilizes an evidence-based curriculum to divert students away from the school-to-prison pipeline through programming that supports a drug-free lifestyle and removes barriers to academic success. This program is designed to support academic achievement by keeping youth in school and teaching them new skills. The Diversion Program provides student services as well as parent engagement and referrals.

PREVENTION
We offer quality prevention services to youth, adults, and families throughout Allegheny County to reduce early initiation of substance abuse and improve decision-making skills. The services are within the community and school setting. Services include drug and alcohol pre-screenings and referrals, individual sessions and follow-ups, small groups, classroom presentations, alternative activities, and alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs [ATOD] information dissemination.

INTERVENTION
Our prevention services are offered to groups to address risky behavior associated with substance abuse. Individuals receive supportive services related to accessing intervention and treatment. Outreach efforts heighten awareness of substance abuse and risk factors.

TREATMENT
TRY is licensed to provide D|A outpatient treatment services. The services include drug and alcohol level of care assessments, outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment through individual and group counseling. The sessions are confidential, culturally sensitive, and are intended for underserved and high priority populations.

ASSESSMENT AND CASE MANAGEMENT
Our Drug and Alcohol Case Management services include providing drug and alcohol assessments and referrals to individuals referred by Adult Probation/Parole at the Community Resource Centers and DRCs. We ensure that individuals can access the appropriate treatment services while assisting them throughout the process.

YOUTH CASE MANAGEMENT
Drug and Alcohol Case Management is an individualized, person-centered support service, targeted to youth with addictive and co-occurring disorders who present with multiple needs and require advocacy and assistance in accessing services and supports. The purpose of Drug and Alcohol Case Management is to assist the individual with increasing resilience and self-sufficiency toward recovery. The primary goals of case management services are to increase retention in and completion of substance abuse treatment and increase access to ancillary support services to enhance recovery.

RECOVERY
Recovery support services are implemented by Certified Recovery Specialists [CRS] who work with individuals struggling with substance abuse on a peer-to-peer basis. CRS services are intended to extend and enhance the drug and alcohol treatment continuum by helping to prevent relapse and promote sustained recovery. If relapse occurs, our services help to minimize the negative effects through early intervention and, where appropriate, timely referral to treatment. Individuals involved with Child Youth Services [CYS], the criminal justice system, and those reentering the community after release from prison may also benefit from this service.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

DROP-IN CENTER
We offer an array of non-clinical drop-in services to individuals in all stages of recovery. These services involve recovery groups, skills workshops, and access to our drop in center which is open 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, five days a week. These services allow an entry point into recovery for populations that do not typically have access or interest in traditional forms of treatment and provide individuals with a social setting that is substance free where they can connect with other individuals dealing with the similar issues. In these settings they can connect with immediate harm reduction resources such as Narcan, drug testing  kits, disease screening kits, and essentials such as first aid materials, socks, and other esentials. They also can hear about all of the services and programs TRY provides and make the descion to engage at whatever level they are comfortable with.

SOCIETAL RE-ENTRY
We offer numerous re-entry programs for individuals leaving or about to leave the Allegheny County Jail or federal facilities, including our standard re-entry program and specialized re-entry programs for women and fathers. These programs are meant to stabilize individuals upon exiting incarceration and connect them to immediate and long term resources and support to succesfully reintegrate them into society and prevent recidivism.
